This is actually pretty funny since the movie was at least partially filmed in Hawaii and there are off-road tours that use these (and on the mainland too). As a huge JP and Pinz fan, I'm pretty excited. It will be mine. Oh yes. It will be mine.

Ugh, why are so many movies using super-vibrant sharpened colors and fully CGI environments? Jurassic Park looked more realistic than this.

I know what you mean. You want film. Most stuff is shot in digital now. You should see a documentary with Keanu Reeves called Side By Side where a bunch of big name people talk about this. I think at this point, it's basically just the modern aesthetic. I often find it tough to sit through older movies just because of the look.

I think that modern cameras and lenses are so sharp and high resolution, we're not yet used to seeing so much detail. I think it's just something we have to get used to, I'm sure people complained about talkies and going to color too.

OK - so I understand that they made the island and things got out of control. I can even imagine going back to see how badly things are fucked up. But a third time? A fourth time? Don't they know this always ends badly? Like the knucklehead who went to live with the bears. If you go into the woods, that's where the bears are ... and the ocean? That's where the sharks are . Isn't it a shame, she went surfing, and a shark bit her arm off. No, it's not a shame, it is to be expected . It is the ocean, and it doesn't want you in it.

And an island filled with dinosaurs? Count me out.

I recently watched the 720p version of The Human Condition Part 1, a 1959 Japanese film, long before even practical effects were available. It's clarity, tone, directing, etc. were lightyears ahead of what most modern films are, and I think it's because the director had to get every shot perfect because he couldn't just rely on CGI to fill in the blanks later on.

I use the Matrix as my criteria. If a movie's CGI looks less realistic than the Matrix did, then they're doing it wrong. CGI seems best when it's there to improve the cinematography, NOT to paint backgrounds in post-production because the directors were too lazy to shoot outside of a green screen studio.

It sort of reminds me of old studio films where all of the filming was done inside a building, and they used paintings and props to make it look "real". But they had the excuse of viewers not knowing what places outside of the US actually looked like back then.

People were complaining about colors in games like Diablo 3 as well. It's just modern art direction in general.

I'm middle-of-the-road on this. On one hand, dinosaurs are always cool. On the other, it's impossible for this movie to deviate from the formula we already know well enough by now; Humans come into contact with dinos, the dinos get loose, people die, the problem is mitigated some how, tease the sequel, the end. Lather, rinse, repeat for another four sequels and pause when the money train stops flowing to try again in a decade or so when the IP is somewhat forgotten. I'm complaining a lot here, but I'll likely see it anyway.

Also I don't think it's fair to make starlord deal with both Thanos and dinosaurs at the same time. Can't the avengers pop in and deal with some of this with him?

That was a VERY Manhattan comment haha. (It was too obvious for me to not say)

JW takes place years after JP. LW takes place 4 years after JP. So this is kind of filling the gap between the first the movies. And as the lawyer in JP knows, the place would be a gold mine like no other, so that's why they still would pursue the idea, even after the events of the first movie. It's a new company running it now too.

And I pretty much agree with you on the wildlife, but also notice that the people attacked are at peace with it. That girl who lost her arm still surfs. That said, for dinosaurs, I'll take the chance.

As a big JP fan, I can forgive a lot. There may be other things to nitpick about the movie, but that is my biggest issue with it so far.

What other story would you propose? Maybe a rags-to-riches biopic of John Hammond where JP is a success like Disney? That could actually be cool to see a successful park.

I know what you mean, but do you want to see a Star Wars movie without lightsabers?

Yes it was a Manhattan comment. And yes the girl who lost her arm (at least one of them) still surfs. This makes no sense. Recently, there was a bear spotted in Central Park. You have been warned.

Automotive note - did you see on Top Gear where Jeff Goldblume still drives the ML 300 they gave him as an appearance fee after the second movie?

Saw the first and second ones, skipped the third because I would have been yelling at the screen ("haven't you learned anything?"). The latest one will be Netflix, if at all.

Your post caused me to look at Spielberg's IMDB, which caused me to learn that Indiana Jones 5 has been green-lit, and Harrison Ford is rumored. Did they learn nothing from Crystal Skull ?

Yeah I saw that thing about the bear. Did they ever find out where it came from? I assume it was a pet that somebody dumped.

Yeah I was amazed that Goldblume's ML still ran.

JPIII is basically a B-movie. It's nothing like the first two movies, but once you have that mindset, it's fun to see dinos killing people again. Just don't don't go in with high expectations and you'll have a good time.

Here's what they learned from Crystal Skull : $$$. It doesn't even matter if it's a well received movie, they'll make plenty of money on name recognicton alone.

How about, "The dinos have escaped the island (due to our dumb attempts to try to profit from this horrible, horrible investment), and now they're starting to push human civilization out of previously safe and occupied spaces. Now we have to make tough choices if we want to remain as the dominant species on this planet." Would you nuke Texas to take it back from the D-rexes and Raptors, even though it meant murdering the few million that still live there, and irradiating lots of land and waiting centuries for it to be habitable again in the process?

That'd be cool to see. WWZ with dinosaurs.

But essentially, you still have people running from and getting eaten by dinos. (And I'm okay with that).

It was a girl cub - they presumed it was hit by a car. I haven't seen any indication that they figured it out. Not just in this city - people are strange. A while back they found some guy with a tiger living in his Bronx apartment. A tiger . I wouldn't be able to sleep.

Comedian Dana Gould made an interesting observation about Raiders . It violates the main rule of screenwriting. The Nazis want the ark. Indiana Jones tries to prevent them from getting it. He fails. The Nazis open the ark, and the ark defends itself. Indiana Jones? Completely unnecessary to the plot. Dana pointed this out to a veteran screenwriter, who said "oh, you can't go pulling on those threads."

He also complained about Empire not having an ending. They're standing there, looking out the window. The joke was "Is that Act 3 out there?" ... sort of forgiveable since it's styled as a serial.

And yeah - no Chief Brody, no Jaws . No Charlton Heston, no Beneath the Planet of the Apes .

And Richard Zanuck, on his way out the door (fired by his father!) let Heston rewrite the ending so (SPOILER ALERT!) that, in the final scene, he blew up the world. Why? Heston didn't want there to be another sequel. There was, of course ( Escape ) but they had to throw in time travel to make it.

That's the second gen 716k model. There's a few in the states, but since they're more rare, they're much more expensive to import to the US.
